Labour Day

Was a great day today! Even though I was woken really early (relatively)… And my day started early (relatively), managed to have breakfast with the parents and brother. Bbtea cravings satisfied first thing in the morning. Managed to get my lovely mini figures. Short quick shopping with my bro. Lots of laughs about my bro riding the bike around Giant and my mum trying (& balancing) on the bikes. I mean it was just epic. I was just ‘in charge’ of the trolleys & laughing.. And mornings at Parkway always seem to be HAM & Cute Kids World. <3

Dropped by my cousins’ house for awhile & caught up a little with them.

Rushed for tea with my dearest friends at Marmalade Toast at Ngee Ann City, a sweet cozy hideout. With its deserved share of HAMs and quite surprisingly lots of couples of both kinds. Food, though not perfect, but pretty affordable & nice, lots of choices of salads, sandwiches, wraps, cakes and tarts (although the drinks were quite ex). We agreed that it was a good place to go back again for its coziness, breakfast/brunch/lunch/tea food.

Random window shopping with them and goood old Jap green tea ice cream. Managed to catch “The Lucky One” too! :) It was quite an okay movie, tee bit sad for a while but mostly quite a sweet meaningful one.

The assembling of my Legoman & short catch up of Day 2 of MBFWA. It was a really satisfying 'labour’ day wasn’t it? :)

LEGO

Was walking around ToysRUs feeling all cautious and wary of the things around me… Initially on the lookout for my LegoMan but only managed to see all the sets but not the individual men. Maybe I should go for those instead haha.

There was this pair of siblings, older brother and younger sister and the younger sister kept touching the Lego sets. Her mum was saying:“Let’s go over to the other side, Lego is for boys. Let’s go look at dolls!” But I guess the younger sister, being only 2 didn’t really understand and kept hanging around her bro. Like “oh my brother’s playing this, I wanna choose a toy from here too”.

I don’t think I can have a daughter in the future.. would totally deprive her of the things she’s “supposed” to play with. But I grew up loving Lego, always building the same house, with that same pathway in the middle stretching out from the door, lined with flowers and bushes. Door always in the centre and windows at both sides. Single storey house, the bigger the house, the better haha. I mean Lego is like the ultimate best game in anyone’s childhood.

Why is there a differentiation between what can girls play and what guys play anyway? It was fun to explore the world of “what guys like” and there’s really nothing wrong with it!  Spent my primary school days being a little tomboyish, liking blue and black and hating anything that was pink. Thinking how weak some girls were, those who hated the sun and didn’t think that sports was worth playing.

I used to have this best friend in primary school whom I always hanged out with in school because we loved playing with the guys during PE lesson. I mean the girls would just spend like half of the period trying to decide what game or equipment to take from the PE store. But my friend and I would rush with the guys to the PE store damn excitedly, just to get the best soccer ball and our cone markers with the guys so that we could start the game ASAP. PE was of course the most exciting period in school at that time because we could just play as much as we wanted and run and run.

Around that age we started to know “who boys were” and starting having crushes and stuff, and it was just soo fun labeling them in our secret code and that’s when we started hanging around after school just to play soccer. It was pretty simple, like the guy we each like loved to play soccer, so since we liked that guy and can play soccer, let’s stay back and play soccer with them! And that’s when I started liking to watch soccer, being an avid fan of a particular team, and liking that team because the guy I liked liked that team. I think it’s so true with the saying that you’ll always grow to like the things that the person you like likes! :)

(PS: And I stopped liking soccer THAT much, after I stopped liking that guy!)

And in secondary school, when the influence from a girls’ school started to overtake my mind, that’s when being girly all came back! Haha I mean it’s fun to think of my childhood and I don’t really understand why parents are so afraid of their girls liking ‘boy stuff’ and boys liking 'girl stuff’ (notice the ’ ’). Why should girls only like pink and not blue, and be able only to play toys and forbidden to play Legos? But seriously the Lego company should be commended because they’ve… came up with 'GIRL LEGO’ heh heh :D

YES, girls should have the right to play Lego too ;)

The bottom links cover some views of LEGOs “LEGO for Girls” initiative, of course sparking some feminist issues and they’re pretty interesting haha. Here we go again!!

Been thinking how much I haven’t exercised since school started. Possibly zero times in 2012. I know how holiday exercise plans always halt in the middle because of something… Unfit feeling hmm. Can imagine the satisfaction I get everytime after a run…

Satisfaction after a run > Satisfaction from eating I would say.. :)

사랑이 이런 건지 몰랐어요

Phillip Lim

Have I ever mentioned how much I adore Phillip Lim’s work? Just saw his Fall 2012 collection and I can pretty much say that it’s always so stunning, despite working with black & white. Here are other articles about him, his designs and his story.

His desire to not be into Facebook or Twitter and to shun from the media in the fashion world seems contradicting but pretty interesting! Almost akin to an indie musician not wanting to be in the mainstream spotlight, but still wanting to gain appreciation from that small indie community. That would suffice.

Clean cut designs, excellent craftsmanship, sometimes unique colors, how his work is sought of by many since it’s so wearable and the simplicity of every fashion piece that goes down the runway. Not dramatic collections but collections that catches the eye and makes one ponder how such simplicity could create such a beautiful piece. Beautiful may not be a word good enough to portray the exact feeling you can get by looking, but it’s definitely the word that every girl will feel when she puts on that Phillip Lim piece.

The beach holds so much meaning for me

Just finished watching two final runway parts of PR Korea, realize it’ll take more episodes than that to get used to their style…

It’s the 3rd day of NY Fashion Week and about a week more to go. With all the showcased F/W collections each day, I’m looking forward to more solids, layered looks and structured silhouettes :D More to come soon with London & Paris, just seems too great :) :)

We’re always looking forward to the things we want so badly. It’s hard to act like we don’t.
